Down with Amazon!

If you’re a reader, author or just all around consumer, I’m begging on bended knee that you stear clear of Amazon for a while.  Why?  Amazon has recently put into place a policy which FORCES small/e-presses that want to have their print books listed on Amazon to use their printer, Booksurge.  Now, I won’t go into Booksurge versus Lightning Source for POD (print on demand) publishing, but let me tell you this… The first time I’ve got a big hugormous company telling me who I have to print through just because I’m a smaller guy, I’ve got a problem.  They’re not telling the big houses who they have to print through to get listed on Amazon.  No, they’re telling the small fries… The ones they think they can push around…  Me?  That’s a frucking problem.

Basically, it boils down to the big guy telling the little guys what to do… or else.  See, if the small presses don’t bend to Amazon’s will, they won’t be listed for purchase on Amazon.  Oh, you’ll see the book on there, but guess where the buy link is?  No where to be found!  Gah!  That’s a travesty!

So, even though I’ve loved Amazon to this point, I can’t agree with them strong arming the small and e-presses I love and publish through.

Anyway…  I made it past the first round in LI’s March Madness contest.  Woot! and Oh shit!

Oh Shit! because I don’t know how I’ll fare in the next round.  I mean, these other authors had to have kicked some assage to make it past the first round, right?  What if I don’t have “it”?

So, I’m happily typing away… typetypetype…  Email everyone and their brother regarding making it into the Sweet Sixteen at Loose ID.  Then it dawns on me…  What are all the other steps called… 
 
Me:  Baby, the college basketball thingie.  It’s called the Sweet Sixteen, right?
*He stops playing with his computer and gives me that “you’re seriously asking me this?” look.*
Mr. Kyle:  Yeah.
Me:  And then it’s the… *checks compu* Elite Eight.
*He sighs*
Mr. Kyle:  Yeah, baby.
*I am undeterred*
Me:  Then the Final Four.
*He’s given up and gives me his undivided attention*
Mr. Kyle: Yes.
*He’s getting short now*
Me:  But what about the final two?
Mr. Kyle: It’s the finals.  They’re the finalists.
Me:  But what are they called?
Mr. Kyle:  The finalists.
Me:  But what’s their cute name?
Mr. Kyle:  FINALS
*Swear to God, he spoke in all caps. I want to learn how to do that.*
Me: But they had the alliteration thing going…
 
He got disgusted then and turned back to his compu and I was left with no answer.  It’s sad, right?  The guys who did the whole alliteration/naming thing for the NCAA tournament should have come up with something better than finals or finalists.  They’ve got the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight and Final Four… How about the Tornado Two cause they swept the competition or something?

M’kay.  I have to be THE most pathetic person in the world.  See…  I entered the March Madness contest over at Loose ID.  And dude! I made it into the Sweet Sixteen.  Even better?  Voting starts TODAY!  But… but… The link isn’t there for the voting yet and I keep refreshing the LI homepage, hoping for new info to pop up.  Like Every. Five. Minutes.  Maybe even more often than that.  Seriously.

Working on an anthology with Darragha Foster and Mima!  Woot!  This shit is bananas baby!  Of course, I can’t figure out a title for the story.  What would you call a fluffy snow leopard with control issues.  As in, she has none.

I’m working on another anthology with Tina Holland and Nina Pierce!  Yetis anyone?  I think Ysai needs a little lovin’ from a special wolf…  or is he?  Were What? is my story for this shifty centered anthology.  Can’t wait!  *bouncy bouncy*
