Yummy Man Loving - YML

September 12th, 2006 by Celia Kyle

So, I’d like to announce that I’m in the closet. Deeeeeeep in the closet. So deep that I’m not sure when I’ll be coming out. Well, I shouldn’t say that. I’m out to you all. You all know about my obsession with yummy man loving. You all know that I write erotic romance that includes said YML. My mother…doesn’t.

She thinks I write romance all wrapped up in a box with a pretty pink bow. Said box is of course filled with phrases such as ‘mounds of pleasure’ and ’staff of desire’. They are breasts and cock people! Say it with me, breasts and cock! *sigh* I’m yelling at you when it should be her I’m talking to. It’ll never happen so get used to my ranting. I want my mom to be proud of me, and she really is proud…of the part she knows about. She’s well, a smidge on the conservative side. Actually, smidge is an understatement in reality. But I love her and she’s my mom. At least she raised me to be open minded and accepting of others, blah, blah, blah. But I just love reading about two men getting it on.

I’ve been thinking a lot on that lately too. Why do I love my YML? I actually wrote an article for JERR on the subject that should be appearing soon, but the question was answered by several m/m author’s and not me. (Shhh…You can’t tell anyone…You’ll be privy to my secret identity.) Which means that you get to read my opinion here! Yay for you! Back to topic. The sex…well it goes without saying that it’s just hot. But, there’s more to it than that, right? Of course there is!

There’s the relationship. Don’t get me wrong, relationships in m/f books are great in their own right, but the majority of readers today are looking for an extremely masculine and strong hero. But what if I want a hero that’s a little vulnerable, or shy, or occasionally needy? I go to my m/m of course. The m/f female books are filled with hero’s that scream ‘me Tarzan you Jane, now suck my cock!’. Now m/m books…well, they have the same thing, but with a twist. We still get ‘me Tarzan you Jack, now suck my cock!’ but it’s followed with ‘anything you want baby, but can we snuggle when we’re done?’

Snuggling? Yep, you heard right folks. We get men that want to snuggle in m/m books. Men that can be vulnerable, tender, and loving and still be men. Now I’m not saying that m/f books don’t have hero’s that can be all those things and more, but the sad fact is that they are few and far between. So that’s what it boils down to. I may love YML for the sex, but when you go deep to the core of things, I love it more for the freedom of emotion that only a m/m book can give to men.

You’re right, Celia. That’s one of the reasons why I believe women love to read m/m romances. Because you can have both types of men at the same time. :)

The first time I read any m/m action was by some unknown author online, didn’t do anything for me.

But recently I picked up a Emma Holly book (I’d read other “normal” m/f books of her’s before) and was shocked by a m/m scene. Okay, really it had a girl in it too, but it was the boy on boy action that heated me up.

I think you’re on the right track about the relationship stuff, but for me it’s also the taboo aspect.

It’s not something I will every get to experience (being as I don’t have a dick) so my imagination is the only place I can live it. And as we all know, sometimes the mind is sexier than the body.

Yeah, being a woman makes writing the m/m action difficult, but I’ve read so much that I almost know what it’s like. Ok, maybe not since like you I don’t have a dick, but I can pretend.

I think I know which book you’re talking about and that’s one of the first m/m action books I’ve read and I became hooked. Love It! Head over to TA Chase’s blog if you love reading m/m, he’s got a free story he posts twice a week and two books that are the yummiest!
